About Hair Drug Testing
Hair drug testing allows the detection of regular or repeated substance use over time. As the hair grows (approximately 1 cm per month), it incorporates compounds present in the body, which makes it possible to analyze consumption up to 6 months ago.
Advanced analytical techniques based on liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) are used to detect the substances.
This highly sensitive technology allows precise and unambiguous identification and quantification of substances present in the sample, even at very low concentrations.
The analysis is performed following protocols recognized in the field of forensic toxicology, including washing, digestion and extraction of the sample, according to the recommendations of the Society of Hair Testing (SoHT).

Why test hair instead of blood or urine?

How does hair detect drug use?
Substances and their metabolites are incorporated into the hair through the bloodstream during hair growth. In this way, the hair acts as a progressive record of consumption over time.
Is it possible to know when the drug was consumed?
No, hair analysis provides an overview of the period analyzed. It is not possible to know a specific date in the past whether or not a substance was consumed.
What time period can the hair analysis detect?
It depends on the length of the sample. Generally speaking, 1 cm of hair is equivalent to approximately 1 month of growth, so the analysis can cover several weeks or months, up to a maximum of 6 months (equivalent to 6 cm).
What is the difference between an individual analysis and a drug pack?
Individual analysis allows the detection of a specific substance. Packs of 5 or 8 drugs allow the analysis of several drugs at the same time, with a lower cost per substance and a more complete evaluation.
Can there be false positives in hair analysis?
The risk is very low when confirmation processes are applied. In addition, capillary samples are subjected to washing procedures to remove possible external contamination prior to analysis.
Can drug contact be positive?
The point external contact is usually not sufficient to generate a confirmed positive result, as the samples are subjected to decontamination processes prior to analysis.
However, repeated exposure to drug-using environments may influence the outcome.
Can occasional hair consumption be detected?
Yes, they can be detected depending on the case but hair analysis is NOT recommended for this type of detection.
Are the results legally valid?
